INTRODUCTION
California Subject Examinations for Teachers® (CSET®) test
guides have been produced for the Commission on Teacher Credentialing
(CTC) by Evaluation Systems. The purpose of the test
guides is to provide information that may be helpful to examinees who are
preparing to take subject matter examinations in the CSET program.
You are welcome to download the test guides in part or in
their entirety for your use in preparing to take the CSET.
The test guides should be used in conjunction with other CSET-related
information provided by the CTC
and/or Evaluation Systems and especially the CSET registration bulletin1. The Web site is also a source of additional, up-to-date information about the
CSET program that examinees may find useful.
GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE CSET PROGRAM
The general information provided
in this test guide section includes: a summary of California requirements for earning a
teaching credential, a summary of the process used to develop the CSET, a
general description of CSET test administrations, an overview of the types of
test questions that typically appear on examinations of the CSET, and some
suggestions on how to prepare for and take the CSET.

SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT EACH EXAMINATION OF THE CSET
Specific information about each
of the examinations of the CSET includes: the subject matter
requirements/content specifications that the examination is designed to assess;
the structure of the examination, including its subtests and the content domains
within each subtest; an annotated list of resources recommended by California
educators that can be used to prepare for the examination; the scoring scales
and scoring procedures to be applied to written or oral responses; sample test
questions; annotated responses to sample multiple-choice questions; and examples
of responses to sample constructed-response questions.
